Christmas Miracle: Firefighters Rescue Elderly Woman From Flooded Creek
The woman's vehicle veered into Toonigh Creek Thursday morning along Holly Springs Parkway near The Home Depot.
Holly Springs, GA -- An 87-year-old woman will live to see another Christmas after she was rescued Thursday morning from a flooded creek in Cherokee County.
Crews with Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services responded to the accident around 8:30 a.m. Dec. 24 on Holly Springs Parkway at Toonigh Creek near The Home Depot.
The car left the road and went into the flooded creek, Cherokee County Fire Battalion Chief Ricky Collett said in a news release.

The car was nearly under water, and firefighters from Fire Station No. 24 had to deploy a 35-foot extension ladder to reach the victim due to the steep embankment, Collett said.
Fortunately, Cherokee County firefighter Michael Axford, who’d just completed his shift, and three other firefighters were able to rescue the motorist from the creek.

The driver was shaken, but not injured and refused treatment at a local hospital, Cherokee County fire said.
The victim didn’t let the accident deter her from completing the day’s task, however. As soon as she was checked out at the scene by emergency crews, she indicated she planned to clock in for her shift at a local restaurant.
