Copper Coin Coffee Founder Selling Business
The shop, which opened in downtown Woodstock in 2011, has had a "rough" couple of years with an attempted expansion.

WOODSTOCK, GA -- The family behind one of the stores that helped spur the flurry of activity that's become the norm in downtown Woodstock has announced its plans to sell Copper Coin Coffee.
Mike Gullicksen, the founder and owner of the coffee shop, said he is seeking a buyer to take over the establishment at 400 Chambers Street. Gullicksen said he and his crew have had a "rough" couple of years with its attempted expansion, which placed a financial burden on their shoulders that they are just unable to shake off.
"We had to expand operations to offer more product, breakfast, lunch, beer and wine," he added on the company's Facebook page. "This also put an added financial strain on us and we just could not pull out of the hole we are in."

Copper Coin Coffee was originally known as Woodstock Coffeehouse where it opened along Towne Lake Parkway in October 2010. In 2011, it moved to downtown Woodstock and opened in a partnership with Acru, a Woodstock-based financial planning firm. Copper Coin later expanded to Forsyth County and Brookhaven, but those two ventures have since closed. (SIGN UP: Get Patch's Daily Newsletter and Real Time News Alerts. Gullicksen, who runs the company with his two sons, David and Michael, said their family's passion has always been to provide community gathering spot where visitors can bond and share stories over coffee, beer wine, other drinks and small plates. He also said they made every attempt to "work out options to stay and we were not able to convince those who make the decisions."

"Our plans are to stay open as long as possible and to keep operations going to the very last possible second," he added. "We hope you will continue to enjoy our space as long as possible too."

Gullicksen said he is in talks with various parties about a possible purchase of the venture.
"Without all the debt incurred through all the expansion costs and kitchen renovations, Copper Coin is a very successful operation, and we are positive the ever increasing sales and growth with food, beer and wine would allow new ownership to continue with what we have built," he added.
