Dive Team Recovers SUV From Retention Pond In Cherokee County

Information from dispatchers say the driver "was standing on the roof of the vehicle and swam to shore" before the fire department arrived.

ACWORTH, GA — A vehicle drove into a retention pond early Saturday evening in southwest Cherokee County. Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services responded to the call of the incident before 6 p.m. Jan. 27 at the pond at 399 Northpoint Parkway, which is located off Highway 92 near Interstate 75.

Crews arrived to find a black Chevrolet SUV in the pond, and the county's Dive Team was called out to the scene to begin recovery efforts.

Initial information provided by 9-1-1 dispatches indicates the driver "was standing on the roof of the vehicle and swam to shore before the fire department's arrival," said Battalion Chief Ricky Collett.

Dive team members were able to retrieve the vehicle by using hook cables from a wrecker. No injuries were reported and the incident remains under investigation.
