Drugs, Guns, Cash Seized Following Traffic Stop in Woodstock

A Cherokee Sheriff's Office deputy made the discovery when he pulled over a motorist on suspicion of driving under the influence.

WOODSTOCK, GA -- A traffic stop conducted late Sunday morning near Towne Lake resulted in the seizure of nearly $2,000 in cash, two handguns and a slew of drugs.

A deputy with the Cherokee Sheriff's Office pulled over a motorist on suspicion of driving under the influence on Othello Drive at Bells Ferry Road, which intersects with Towne Lake Parkway near Woodstock.

The investigation "led to the discovery that the driver was impaired," sheriff's office spokesperson Lt. Jay Baker said.

The driver was later identified as Kennesaw resident Walter Andrew McKinney, 53, and he was taken into custody.

The vehicle was impounded, and led to deputies unearthing $1,953 in cash, a GLOCK 43 handgun, a GLOCK 10 mm handgun and an assortment of MDMA -- better known as ecstasy, -- Xanax, Viagra, hydrocodone and synthetic testosterone.

McKinney was booked into the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center on charges of DUI, open container of alcohol in vehicle, possession of MDMA, possession of a schedule IV substance (Xanax), possession of a schedule II substance (hydrocodone) and two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

He was released Monday after posting an $80,336 bond.
