Early Voting Remains Strong in Cherokee

More than 6,000 residents have cast ballots ahead of the Nov. 8 general election.

WOODSTOCK, GA -- Early voting in Cherokee County is off to a strong start, as more than 6,000 voters have cast ballots ahead of the Nov. 8 General Election.

A total of 6,797 people visited the Cherokee County Elections and Registration's office this week to vote early, the office told Patch late Friday afternoon.

"The line is moving very fast," said Elections Director Kim Stancil. "Voters are only having to wait about 20 minutes."

The only issue the office has had this week is when the wind caused the power to go out for a few seconds Friday morning, forcing the staff to reboot the computers, Stancil stated.

"It seems that voters are eager to vote this time, and I think we’ll see numbers like we haven’t seen before for the early/advance voting period," she added, noting early voting typical starts off slow, but picks up steam as the days go on.

For example, 1,300 people voted early on Monday, followed by 1,285 on Tuesday, 1,331 on Wednesday, 1,424 on Thursday and 1,457 on Friday.

The office has also mailed out 11,815 absentee ballots.

Early voting continues continues next week at the elections office (400 East Main Street), from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 24-28. Additionally, Saturday voting will be held at the office from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 29.

Saturday voting will also take place at the Ball Ground (435 Old Canton Road), Hickory Flat (2740 East Cherokee Drive, Canton), Rose Creek (4476 Towne Lake Parkway, Woodstock) and Woodstock (7735 Main Street) public libraries.

Advance voting will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 31 to Friday, Nov. 4 at the elections offices as well as the four public libraries.

Election Day polling will be held from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8, and citizens will cast ballots at their assigned precincts.
