Elm Street Presents 'Fancy Nancy The Musical'

Performances for the show will be July 11-25 at the Elm Street Cultural Arts Stage at the Chambers at City Center.

WOODSTOCK, GA — Elm Street Cultural Arts Village will bring its production of a story based on popular books by Jane O'Connor to its audiences in Woodstock. "Fancy Nancy the Musical," based on O'Connor's "Fancy Nancy" stories, centers on the main character, Fancy Nancy, and her friends, who are preparing to make their acting debut.

Nancy is positive that she will be picked to be a mermaid. When another girl wins the coveted role of the mermaid, Nancy is stuck playing a dreary, dull tree. Can Nancy bring fancy flair to her role, even though it isn’t the one she wanted?

'Fancy Nancy' will take audiences on silly, thrilling and fun journey as Nancy will demonstrate you can transform a dull situation into a happy outcome.

"I love the underlying themes of this story — make the most of what you’ve got," said director Tom Milley. "You don’t need a lot. Share kindness and cookies, and dance when you feel like it. Before you know it, you will be making your world a happier, more wonderful and fancier place. The story of 'Fancy Nancy' comes to life straight from the amazing collection of books, and we have had so much fun bringing it to life for you to enjoy."

'Fancy Nancy' will close out Elm Street's 2017-18 Season of Courage, and this performance could be the last production of the musical in the area. Elm Street notes Disney recently acquired the right to produce a series based on the books and will debut the show July 13 on the Disney Junior channel. Elm Street was among the last arts organizations to interact and acquire the rights to perform the show, and may be one of the last companies to perform the musical indefinitely, it said.

In addition to regular performance times, Elm Street will be offering a variety of community engagement
activities surrounding this production. There will be fashion shows, ice cream socials, pre-show lobby activities cast meet-and-greets and more. Performances are 10 a.m. Wednesdays and 2 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays, July 11-25 at the Elm Street Stage at the Chambers at City Center in downtown Woodstock.
