Etowah Senior Hosts Home Run Derby For Child Battling Cancer

Crushin' for Carson featured Major League Baseball players, including Hall of Fame inductee Tom Glavine, and a silent auction.

WOODSTOCK, GA -- On Monday, 6-4-3 DP Athletics hosted a philanthropic home run derby featuring more than 20 professional baseball players, including Hall of Famer Tom Glavine, in an effort to raise money for young child battling cancer.

Crushin’ for Carson, organized by Etowah senior Drew Waters, raised more than $11,000 for the family of Carson Rozsman, a 9-year-old DP baseball player battling an inoperable brain tumor.

The money raised during Monday's event, which was part of Waters' required senior project, is in addition to more than $60,000 collected through a GoFundMe campaign.

Waters began to think about organizing a fundraiser when he learned of Carson's plight.

“Our team immediately took him in as family," he said. "When I learned about my senior project, I immediately decided about creating a home run derby for Carson.”

The home run derby included guest appearances from Major League Baseball players such as Tom Glavine, Adam Everett, Kyle Davies, Brian Moehler, Keith Lockhart, Spencer Kieboom and Todd Greene.

The event also featured a silent auction with signed memorabilia from Glavine, former Atlanta Braves outfielder Andruw Jones as well as a Kirby Smart football.

Sofia Rozsman, Carson's mother, thanked everyone who pitched in to make Monday's fundraiser a success.

“I'd like to thank Drew Waters, 6-4-3 and the community for coming out to support our family and Carson during his courageous brain cancer battle," she added. "Baseball has been Carson's number one love since he was old enough to play. It's been truly touching how Drew and our baseball organization have rallied around Carson and our family. We are truly grateful."
