Update: Fallen Soldier Funeral Set

Visitation will be Thursday from noon to 8 p.m. at the Woodstock Funeral Home.

The will hold visitation for Army Spc. Gary Lee Nelson III, 20, Thursday from noon till 8 p.m. for friends and family with a rosary at 7 p.m.

The public is being asked to line Main Street at 10 a.m. to pay respects to his family while the funeral procession travels downtown from Kennesaw. Nelson's remains will arrive at McCollum Field just before 10 a.m. and travel down I-575 to Towne Lake Parkway and then right onto Main Street to the Woodstock Funeral Home.

The family will leave from the Woodstock Funeral Home at 10:40 a.m. traveling down Main Street and then right on Arnold Mill Road.

Mass will be held at St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church at 11 a.m. and burial will follow at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton on Friday.

Guests will travel back down Arnold Mill Road continuing on Towne Lake Parkway to I-575 North. Take Exit 16 and turn left at the overpass and follow the signs to GA Highway 20. Turn left on to GA Highway 20 West and follow for approximately six miles, cross the Knox Bridge, and the cemetery entrance is on the right.

A representative from the cemetery said the burial will start at approximately 1 p.m.

Nelson died from injuries that were non-combat related in Mosul, Iraq.

He was participating in Operation New Dawn, the name of the U.S. military mission in Iraq since Sept. 1, when Operation Iraqi Freedom officially ended.

Nelson served with the 6th Squadron, 8th Cavalry, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, based at Fort Stewart in southeast Georgia.
