FBI Names Second Suspect in Jewelry Store Armed Robberies

Woodstock, GA -- The FBI has released the identity of the second suspect involved in a five-state jewelry store robbery spree that also touched the city of Woodstock.

The FBI Jacksonville Division said Monday that charges have been filed in a federal complaint against 35-year-old Lewis Jones III.

Agents with the FBI’s Atlanta Division, who were helping their Jacksonville counterparts with the case, on Friday made contact with Jones, who “was in the company” of Abigail Lee Kemp, the 24-year-old woman agents first identified as the suspect in the armed robberies.

Kemp made her initial appearance Monday in Judge Walker’s courtroom in the Northern District of Georgia in Atlanta. Jones is currently in custody on bank robbery charges related to separate charges filed by the DeKalb County Police Department.

“We continue to thank the public for providing us with information that helped our agents identify and locate these suspects,” said Michelle S. Klimt, special agent in charge of the FBI Jacksonville Division. ”This case is an example of how valuable the relationship between law enforcement and the public is in fighting crime. We also, again, thank our media partners who provided us with invaluable assistance by publicizing our need for information.”

Both suspects are accused of targeting jewelry stores across the southeast, including Jared Vault store in Mebane, North Carolina, on Jan. 4; Sevierville, Tennessee, on Oct. 16, 2015; Jared Jewelry in Bluffton, South Carolina on Sept. 2, 2015; Reeds Jewelers in Panama City Beach, Florida, on Aug. 11, 2015; Zale’s Jewelry in Dawsonville, Georgia, on Aug. 5, 2015; and Jared Jewelry in Woodstock on April 29, 2015.
