Finding Your Career Goal In Your 60's: Selling Houses to Those Your Age

Local woman offered the chance to live her dream in selling houses for premier active adult home builders, Windsong Properties!

As a child, most dream of becoming a nurse, a teacher or a lawyer. Joyce Schell wanted to sell houses. She remembers walking through a home with her father at a young age, looking at the beautiful decorations and the well-dressed woman showing them around and thought, “This is it. This is what I want to do.”

Before Joyce even knew her dream was possible, she tried her hand at several other careers. She moved around and lived her life, spending many years with the love of her life before he passed. Then, at age 62, Joyce received a call from Steve Romeyn, the owner of Windsong Properties, the premier active adult community builders in the metro-Atlanta area. He’d been given her number by a mutual friend and by the end of the call, had hired her.

Steve Romeyn, remembers their call fondly, “As soon as I talked with Joyce, I knew we wouldn’t have to interview anyone else. Her qualifications were endless – driven, passionate, and in tune with what our customer’s want. Our company strives to create an atmosphere where empty nester’s can choose their dream house with other active minded adults, and no one could convey our message better than Joyce.”

“I jumped on the opportunity,” Joyce laughs, “It just made sense to me. I’m the same age as my customers, so while I cater to their needs, I understand what those needs are. Windsong’s mission aligns with mine - to help active adults achieve a better quality of life.”

After nine years and three promotions within Windsong, Joyce has finally achieved her lifelong dream of selling houses, and now represents Windsong as a Sales Professional. She’s proof that age is but a number and it’s never too late to live your dream. Joyce loves what she does, as no day is ever the same.

“Every day, I get to introduce people to the house they’ve been waiting for their entire lives. Now I’m on the other side, dressed sharply and walking through homes, showing my customers beautiful decorations, thinking, ‘This is it. This is what I want to do.’”
