Fundraiser Planned For Cherokee Toddler Whose Parents Were Killed

The toddler's parents, Justin and Amber Hicks, were found shot dead in their Acworth home on Nov. 18. Now, the community is supporting him.

CHEROKEE COUNTY, GA — Your Pie in Canton and Woodstock are hosting fundraisers on Thursday to support the Cherokee County toddler whose parents were killed earlier this month.

Cherokee County firefighter Justin Hicks and his wife, Amber, were found shot dead in their Acworth home on Nov. 18. Their 2-year-old son, Jacob, who was also in the home, was unharmed and is with family members.

Matthew Lanz, 22, was arrested Nov. 19 and charged in connection with a string of Sandy Springs burglaries and stabbing, including 10 counts of attempted murder on a police officer, during which he reportedly stabbed an officer before being shot by police.

Now, the community is rallying around Jacob.

Your Pie in Canton and Woodstock are hosting fundraisers on Thursday, with a percentage of sales going to Jacob, according to WSB-TV. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

“When you have something like that happening in the community, it touches you,” Owner Arnie Seyden told the TV station. "Our hearts are with you. Our thoughts are with you. Our prayers are with you."

Jacobs Pathway Foundation was also established as a 501c3 by fellow firefighters to help provide for Jacob's needs over the coming years. The website states the "intent is to be able to assist the family with any need that may arise. Our long terms financial goals for Jacob are providing for his first vehicle and college tuition, among other things."
