Here are the top stories today in Woodstock-Towne Lake:
- Two members of a criminal street gang in Cherokee County pleaded guilty to trafficking methamphetamines following their arrest in February 2020. 41-year-old Amy Elizabeth Little and 23-year-old Brayden Lee Moore were both determined to be members of the gang known as the Ghostface Gangsters, which originated in the Georgia prison system. Both Little and Moore have entered into negotiated guilty pleas and face 15-year sentences. (CBS 46 News)
- The Cherokee County elections board certified the results of the Jun. 21 runoff election in a unanimous vote on Monday. A total of eight provisional ballots were approved during the meeting at the Elections Warehouse Albert Stone Elections Building in Canton. The certified results confirmed that Republican Rich McCormick will face Democrat Bob Christian for the 6th Congressional District seat in November. (Cherokee County Tribune Ledger)
- Work for the second phase of the 2022 Resurfacing Project is set to begin on Monday, Jul. 11, in Cherokee County. Roads are scheduled to be resurfaced in a total of six different subdivisions including Creekside Estates, Middlebrooke, Lovinggood Landing, BridgeMill, Sturbridge, and Eagle Watch. The work is expected to last around two weeks per subdivision and may cause some traffic delays. (The Georgia Sun)
- Multiple state and Cherokee County leaders and political groups have issued statements regarding the United States Supreme Court's choice to overturn the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision. State Representative Wes Cantrell said he was celebrating the ruling, and Governor Brian Kemp called the decision a "historic victory for life." Meanwhile, the Cherokee County Democrats posted a statement on Facebook last Friday, calling the news "even more devastating than [they] thought it would be" and urging voters to elect Democrats.
