Georgia High School Swim Coaches: Emma Cole is Tops
The 2016-17 Marietta Daily Journal/Cobb County Girls Swimmer of the Year competed in the Olympic Trials last summer

High school swim coaches from across Georgia have named Emma Cole as the Georgia High School Swimmer of the Year.
Emma is a senior at Walton High School in Marietta and lead the swim team to it’s first state title in over 30 years. Sharon Loughran, her coach at Walton says, "Emma is one of the most storied athletes that has ever competed not only for Walton High but also for the state of Georgia. Her performance at the 2017 state meet was dominating. She is the epitome of a humble elite athlete. She is motivated, confident, and a consummate teammate."
Walton Athletic Director Chris Williams likes to compare Emma to one of the NBA’s biggest superstars, “She is our LeBron James of girls swimming. Both LeBron and Michael Jordan can always make the guys around them better. She can make the swimmers around her better, too.”

Emma won both of her individual events at the 2017 Georgia High School Championship — 200 Yard Freestyle and 100 yard Freestyle — and she was on the 400 Freestyle Relay that set a new state record. She also was a last-minute replacement in the butterfly leg of the 200 Medley Relay that finished fifth.
The 2016-17 Marietta Daily Journal/Cobb County Girls Swimmer of the Year, Emma was a major factor in the Lady Raiders' first state championship in almost 30 years, as they beat Lambert High School by 123 points — the largest margin of victory at a state meet since 2009.
