Gold Swimmer Beats the Odds

Chattahoochee Gold swimmer Brittni Hoover is headed for Berry College in the fall to swim for the Vikings.

It’s a dream Brittni nearly lost sight of when an injury in high school almost ended her standout swim career.

Brittni began competing for year-round club team Chattahoochee Gold back in fifth grade. Swimming in college was always her dream. But as a rising junior, she experienced intense pain in her left shoulder. Brittni was crushed when her doctor told her it was very unlikely that she’d ever swim again. But she eventually found a specialist that agreed to try to help her get back in the water. After months of physical therapy Brittni was finally able to resume full training at the start of her senior year at The King’s Academy.

Because of her time away from competition, Brittni feared she had missed her opportunity to be recruited to swim in college. She says her dream came true when she eventually got offers for recruiting trips, including Berry College near Rome, Georgia. “The team and coaches were great and so kind that they felt like family. I could not be more excited and blessed to pursue my dream of swimming in college at Berry…I know that Berry is where I am supposed to go.”

One of Brittni’s greatest memories of swimming for Chattahoochee Gold was being voted captain her senior year. She says that her Gold coach, Falco Fleischmann, “has definitely been the most influential coach for me because he has always believed in me and encouraged me to pursue my dreams even when they seemed unlikely.”

Brittni plans a pre-med major and is interested in Pediatric Oncology and Physical Therapy.  She’ll swim distance freestyle and backstroke for the Vikings.
