Greenstock Day Returns To Woodstock

The city will host a slew of events April 18 for residents to get rid of old, bulky items and shred documents.

The city of Woodstock later this month will host its annual Greenstock Day.

Greenstock Day, set for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 18, will feature a slew of events designed to allow residents to take advantage of services that will help in any spring cleaning efforts. Residents will be able to take advantage of electronic recycling, document shredding service and a special trash pickup.

Woodstock will join forces with Waste Management and Reworx Recycling for its electronic recycling initiative, which will be held at the Chambers at City Center during the aforementioned hours.

Residents are encouraged to get rid of items such as old computers, monitors and televisions.

All equipment will be broken down by Reworx and processed so it can be reused, thus lessening demands on local landfills and keeping toxins from leaking into soil and waterways. All disposals will be done free of charge, with the exception of CRT televisions and monitors, which require a fee of $10.

The collection of projector televisions sets will cost $25.

Loose hard drives can be shredded on site with a $5 fee. Other items that will be recycled include household batteries, car batteries, compact fluorescent light bulbs, magazines and newspapers. Light bulbs must be in a clear plastic, sealed bag before they can be accepted.

Residents can also drop off old cell phones, which will be donate to the Cell Phones for Soldiers program. The program provides a soldier overseas with 60 minutes of prepaid calling service so they can call their families back home.

Additionally, a city wide yard sale will take place throughout the weekend. Residents interested in this service, including participating in the annual initiative, can call 770-517-6788.

During the week of April 20-24, Waste Management will collect used appliances and scrap metal on customers’ normal trash pickup days. Items that will be collected include:

  • stoves and ovens
  • washers and dryers
  • dishwashers
  • water heaters
  • air purifiers
  • humidifiers and dehumidifiers
  • refrigerators and freezers (must have all refrigerants removed and tagged);
  • dismantled play set equipment
  • copper wire/pipes
  • metal lawn furniture (frames only)
  • tire (rims only)
  • metal sinks
  • bicycles (without tires)
  • grills (no gas grills will be accepted)
  • lawnmowers (all fluids must be removed)

No construction debris will be accepted.
