"Hard work and cooperation from Mother Nature" made it possible to complete repairs ahead of schedule, Georgia DOT said.

WOODSTOCK, GA -- It appears crews are entering the final phase of a project to repair the Patriot Railroad crossing in Woodstock, meaning the highway reopened early Sunday afternoon.

That's according to the Georgia Department of Transportation, which made the announcement Sunday morning.

Work on repairing and upgrading the Patriot Railroad crossing on S.R. 92 just east of Main Street began at 11 p.m. Friday, June 16. It was scheduled to be complete by 5 a.m. on Monday.

"Hard work and cooperation from Mother Nature made it possible to complete this repair operation ahead of schedule," GDOT said. "As a result, traffic detour is expected to be removed and highway given back to the traveling public and area residents early this afternoon."

The repairs required the highway to be closed to vehicular traffic in both directions, forcing motorists to use alternate routes.
