Kim Stancil Named Cherokee Elections Director

Stancil succeeds Janet Munda, who has been charged with theft for allegedly using a county credit card for personal purchases.

The Cherokee County Board of Elections and Voter Registration on Monday appointed interim Elections Director Kim Stancil to the position on a permanent basis.

Stancil, who has been employed by the office for eight years, previously served as assistant director of elections, the office said late Monday afternoon.

Stancil was tapped to serve as interim director in July after the board voted to fire former Elections Director Janet Munda, who on Monday was charged with felony theft by taking for allegedly using her county-issued credit card to make personal purchases.

Munda was charged following a six-month investigation launched by detectives with the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office.

Before starting on a full-time basis with the county, Stancil served as a poll worker and poll manager for the office since the 1980s.
