Local Businessman To Run For Cherokee County Commission

Steve Divine, a Woodstock businessman, is seeking the District 4 seat held by incumbent Scott Gordon.

WOODSTOCK, GA — A Cherokee County businessman wants to get involved in local politics in a high-profile manner. Steve Divine has announced his candidacy for the District 4 seat on the Cherokee County Commission.

District 4 encompasses the southwest quadrant of Cherokee County and much of Woodstock. The seat is currently held by Scott Gordon, who is in his first term on the Commission.

"Over the years, I have run my business in Cherokee County, raised my family and served on numerous volunteer boards benefiting Cherokee County residents," he said. "I am committed to Cherokee County and feel with my community and corporate experience, I can serve the residents of District 4 well on the Board of Commissioners."

If elected, Divine said he wants to focus on managed growth, transportation and economic development. He believes his expertise and community involvement will be the key to his success on the County Commission.

Divine is the owner and operator of Divine Insurance Agency/Farmers Insurance, a Woodstock-based business he launched after retiring after spending 40 years in the transportation industry. Outside of his day job, Divine is a member of the Malon D. Mimms Boys and Girls Club of Cherokee County, Woodstock Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, Cherokee County Educational Foundation and the county's Board of Ethics.

Divine and wife Debbie have three daughters and five grandchildren.

Qualifying for partisan and nonpartisan candidates will run March 5-9. Hours are 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to noon Friday. Party candidates must qualify either with the Cherokee County Democratic or Republican parties while nonpartisan candidates will qualify with the Cherokee County elections superintendent. The primary will be held on Tuesday, May 22. Voter registration deadline for the upcoming primary is April 24. You can visit the Secretary of State's My Voter Page to check your registration status.
