Man Bitten By Copperhead Snake in Cherokee County
The Acworth resident was attacked by the reptile while clearing brush at a home off Univeter Road in Canton.
CANTON, GA -- An Acworth man is recovering following a dangerous encounter with a copperhead snake late Friday morning.
Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services was dispatched around 11 a.m. May 27 to a call of man who'd been bitten by the snake.
Crews arrived on the scene and found a 22-year-old male who'd been bitten on his index finger of his right hand.

According to the man’s coworker, they were clearing brush and debris from the backyard of a home in the 4400 block of Whiteleaf Way when they spotted the snake in the back of their landscaping truck.
Whiteleaf Way is located off Univeter Road in unincorporated Canton.

The man attempted to pick up the snake, which was when the reptile made its attack. The victim's hand was swollen, and it appeared he received one puncture wound from the copperhead, Cherokee County fire officials said.
He was transported to Northside Hospital-Cherokee where he received an anti-venom dose for the bite. Derrick Lawrence of Cherokee County Animal Services was dispatched to the scene to remove the snake.
In Milton, a student at Crabapple Crossing Elementary School was bitten by a stake during recess on school grounds. That student was treated for the bite.
Citizens in Cherokee County are encouraged to be aware of their surroundings, and be on the lookout for any type of venomous snakes.
