BREAKING: The Cherokee Sheriff's Office said an altercation resulted in the victim being shot in the face outside a home Saturday evening.

WOODSTOCK, GA — A 25-year-old Woodstock resident has been arrested for shooting another person outside a home over the weekend. Deputies with the Cherokee Sheriff's Office were dispatched to a call of a person shot around 9:44 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 13 at a home on River Laurel Way, which is located off Arnold Mill Road near Hickory Flat Highway.

Deputies arrived at the residence and located the victim, who suffered a gunshot wound to the face. That person was transported to an area hospital for treatment and is in stable condition, said sheriff's office spokesperson Sgt. Marianne Kelley.

Deputies canvassed the area and spoke with witnesses to the incident. During the initial investigation, it was revealed an altercation in the front yard of the home resulted in the victim being shot in the face, Sgt. Kelley said. The agency's Criminal Investigation Divisions continued to work the case, and Michael Monterio was identified as the suspect.
