Man Who Died After House Fire Was From New Jersey
The husband and wife from New Jersey were staying at the house in Woodstock after a trip from Florida.
WOODSTOCK, GA -- Cherokee County officials have released new details about the death of a man who was evacuated from a house fire over the weekend in Woodstock.
Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services responded to a call of a fire around 11 p.m. April 14 in the 200 block of North Briar Ridge, which is located off Bells Ferry Road near the Towne Lake community.
Firefighters arrived on the scene to find the house about 40 percent involved. The occupants of the home included an 82-year-old male, his 74-year-old wife and a five-year-old child. Another couple traveling back from New Jersy after a trip to Florida was also at the house at the time of the fire, Cherokee County fire said Tuesday.

According to a family member of one of the residents inside the house, her mother woke up "to see a bright light and then the smoke alarms went off."

"She immediately woke everyone up and told them to get out of the house," the agency's press release said. The family member's mother was transported by ambulance to WellStar Kennestone Hospital while her husband were taken to the Burn Unit at WellStar Cobb Hospital. The visiting couple was also transported to WellStar Kennestone.
The 76-year-old husband later died from heart failure while his wife has been released from the facility, Cherokee fire added. Their names have not been released at this time.
Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services states the five-year-old child was not injured and was not transported to a hospital. Cherokee County fire investigators continue to probe the cause of the blaze.
