Maureen Torkos, 56, Passionate About Tennis, Devoted To Her Family

Funeral services for the Woodstock resident will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Michael The Archangel Catholic Church.

Maureen Torkos, 56, of Woodstock who was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, inspirational role model, and friend died on Nov. 8, 2014, after a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born in Iwakuni, Japan, and being a child of a military family, she eventually settled in Virginia. In 1976, she met her beloved husband John and married on July 7, 1979. They then moved to Georgia to raise their family. Maureen was first and foremost a wonderful wife, mother, and very active in sports. Her life was devoted to raising her children whom she loved dearly.

She had worked for H&R Block for a number of years, kept her IRS certification and would always make time to assist family and friends with tax questions and tax preparation. Maureen enjoyed getting together and spending time with family and friends. She was actively involved in travel soccer, mentoring county youth programs, refereeing high school teams, coaching travel clubs and county teams, and playing on several adult leagues. In addition, she was very passionate about tennis and was actively involved as a player/captain on ALTA and USTA tennis teams. She will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her.

Maureen was preceded in death by her father, John McLaughlin; and mother-in-law, Anna Torkos; and brother-in-law Tamas Torkos.

Survivors include her loving husband John; her four sons Jonathan (Coral), Christopher, Matthew, and Canaan; grandson Ryland; mother Satoko McLaughlin; three brothers Michael (Julie) , Terence, and Sean (Karen), sister Eileen (Kevin); father-in-law John Torkos Sr.; brother-in-law Richard (Cathy) and several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends were received by her family on Wednesday, Nov. 12 at Lakeside Funeral Home located at 121 Claremore Drive, Woodstock, Georgia, 30188 and are invited to attend her funeral service at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13 at St. Michaels the Archangel Catholic Church, 490 Arnold Mill Rd, Woodstock, Georgia 30188.

After the funeral service, family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life for Maureen to be held immediately after at 4:00 p.m., at the Towne Lake Hills Clubhouse located at 1003 Towne Lake Hills E, Woodstock, Georgia 30189.
