In Memory: John Hiland, 68, Defender of Individual Liberty, Constitution

John Patrick Hiland, 68, of Woodstock, GA, passed Nov. 27, 2015, into the loving arms of the Lord after a courageous battle.

Mr. Hiland was a devoted Christian and an active member of both Chalcedon Presbyterian, Cumming, and Little River Methodist Church, Woodstock.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Kirkpatrick Hiland, and his father, Cecil James Hiland. He is survived by five siblings, Thomas, Charles, Harriett, Warren and Phoebe, their respective spouses and by numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

A defender of liberty, Mr. Hiland served in the United States Army as a military police officer and was on active duty in South Korean during the downing of the Pueblo.
Mr. Hiland was actively involved in community affairs for decades and served as an official representative of the Cherokee County Republican Party and was the chairman of the Canton TEA Party Patriots. He was well known for his unflagging defense of the Constitution, truth and individual liberty.
Mr. Hiland was a true believer of “by the people, for the people and of the people,” and expected those in power to respect the same.
Extremely knowledgeable of history, Mr. Hiland was known for his rich and detailed grasp of complicated historical events and political machinations. A brilliant conversationalist, there was virtually no subject that eluded his keen surveillance.
A faithful friend to may as well as a faithful Christian, he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. A true giver to the very end, his kindness and selflessness will always remain a model for all.
Visitation was held on Sunday, Nov. 29, 2015, at Lakeside Funeral Home.
A memorial service is scheduled for Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Little River United Methodist Church with Rev. Bill Coady officiating. Reception at the church, then interment at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton will follow.
