More Streets Added To List Banning Large Trucks
Cherokee County recently adopted revisions to its large truck ordinance, which adds 9 roads to its list.

CANTON, GA — Cherokee County has added several new roads where large trucks will be prohibited from using as they make their rounds in the area.
The county's truck route ordinance was recently revised by the Board of Commissioners to include the following roads: Arthur Drive, Canton; Little Road, Canton; Beavers Road, Canton; Old Orange Mill Road, Canton; Cotton Road, Canton; S. Cherokee Lane, Woodstock; County Line Road, Cumming; Shiloh Church Road, Dawsonville; and Wrights Mill Road, Alpharetta.
The county defines a large truck as a vehicle having a gross weight that exceeds 36,000 pounds, a length in excess of 30 feet or has more than three axles. This definition excludes recreational vehicles, buses used to transport large parties and government-owned vehicles.

The ordinance bans large trucks from using these roads unless their trips begin or end on these thoroughfares, or is used to make deliveries to a site on the streets. All designated roads that prohibit large trucks are posted with No Thru Trucks signs at each end of such roads. The ordinance calls for fines up to $1,000 or 60 days in jail for each offense.
In 2017, the Cherokee Marshal's Office issued 62 citations and 107 warnings to those who violated the ordinance, said spokesperson Sgt. Matthew McMullen.

Other roads on the list include Scott Road, Butterworth Road, Bart Manous Road, Reavis Mountain Road, Marvin Land Road, Lower Creighton Road, Haley Farms Road, East Cherokee Drive from Holly Springs Parkway to S.R. 20/Cumming Highway and East Cherokee Drive from S.R. 20/Cumming Highway to Creekside Way.
Bridges and culverts also on the list are Bells Ferry Road crossing Little River; Epperson Road crossing Canton Creek; George Gray Road crossing Shoal Creek; Kemp Drive crossing Kellogg Creek; Leo Taylor Road crossing Sharp Mountain Creek tributary; Lyon Dairy Road crossing Sharp Mountain Creek; Transart Parkway Crossing Toonigh Creek; Upper Dowdy Mill Road Crossing Sharp Mountain Creek; Union Hill Road crossing Mill Creek; Union Hill Road crossing Canton Creek; and Waters Road crossing Mill Creek.
The Cherokee Marshal’s Office will be monitoring, educating and enforcing these roadways in Cherokee County.
