More Townhouses Coming To Woodstock

The City Council approved two projects that, if built, could bring more than 100 residences to the area.

WOODSTOCK, GA -- The Woodstock City Council on Monday approved two petitions that could pave the way for more residential units to come out of the ground.

The first item given the unanimous green light from elected officials was a variance application from LDS Partners, LLC of Atlanta.

This 7.05-acre property located at 7784 and 7849 Main Street, 198 Short Street and 100 Henderson Street is zoned downtown residential-office. The developer asked the city for nine variances for its proposed 57-unit town home project.

Council members granted variances related to requirements for street trees, sidewalks along private roads, setbacks and grading into an undisturbed stream buffer.

Attorney Parks Huff, who represents the developer, said the petitioner is also willing to contribute $25,000 towards improvements to Henderson Street.

Ron Rieder, the property owner at 100 Henderson Street, said he was supportive of the proposal, adding he has been trying to sell the land over the years but has run into issues regarding the stream buffer.

“Everything I have seen from them so far, I believe,...will make this work," he added.

The Council also unanimously approved a request from Venture Homes, Inc. for 10.74 acres of property located on the east side of Downsby Lane and south of Highway 92.

The company asked the city to grant variances to increase the density from 6 units to 7.7 units an acre; reduce the front and side setbacks; reduce and expand the lot sizes in some areas; and not build interior sidewalks on some streets.

Plans call for constructing 83 townhome units to the north of the Brooke Mill apartment complex. Council members Bud Leonard and Warren Johnson were not present.
