Council members unanimously approved the request from Paresh Patel of Decatur in connection to 2.2 acres on the south side of Woodstock Parkway near its intersection with Rope Mill Road.

Patel's request would deviate from the required 80 percent brick as an exterior building materials for structures in the city's Technology Park Overlay. With the approval, the hotel would include about 23 percent stone. The remaining part of the hotel would be faced in an exterior insulation and finish system, or EIFS.

Documents submitted to the city show the hotel would have 81 guest rooms and 85 parking spaces. Those documents also show the hotel would be situated to the south of the outlet mall.

Council members also approved an amendment to its solicitation ordinance, which adds a requirement that charities have an office in Cherokee County. City Manager Jeff Mon also said the change adds an appeal process if those organizations are denied a permit.
