Patriots Park Opens in Cherokee County

The park features an artificial turf adaptive use baseball/softball diamond, which will be used by the county's Miracle League program.

ACWORTH, GA -- The long-awaited park that will feature a home for special needs children to play ball is up and running in Cherokee County.

County leaders on Tuesday, March 21 held a ribbon cutting ceremony for Patriots Park, which is located on 32.8 acres on Kellogg Creek Road in Acworth.

The park, an idea originally conceived in 2010, was funded by proceeds from the voter-approved November 2008 parks bond.

The park, which underwent several revisions until its final plan was adopted in 2015, was designed by Smith Planning Group of Watkinsville. In October 2015, the Cherokee County Board of Commissioners awarded the construction services contract to Integrated Construction and Nobility, Inc. (ICAN) of Whitesburg.

  • Two natural grass baseball/softball diamonds;
  • Two fenced off-leash dog areas, one for large dogs and another for small dogs;
  • A fully accessible and inclusive playground;
  • An open meadow with a picnic pavilion;
  • A paved walking path around the park measuring 3/4 of a mile;
  • A paved walking path around the meadow totaling 1/5 of a mile;
  • A concession/restroom building; and
  • An artificial turf adaptive use baseball/softball diamond.

Dubbed Freedom Field, the adaptive use diamond is designed for the inclusive use of athletes of all abilities. It is the first of its kind in the county and will become the home of the Cherokee County Miracle League program.
