Here are the top three stories in Woodstock-Towne Lake today:
- Get ready drivers, rollers and runners. We're about to get 13.67 miles of nicely smoothed road surface in subdivisions around the county. The 2023 Resurfacing Project will utilize $763,000 in SPLOST funds and $2.4 million from a GDOT Local Maintenance Improvement Grant, and the work will be done in Orange Shoals, North Lake, Tamarack, Crabapple Springs, Westridge, Copper Creek, Emerald Forest, Towne Lake Hills North, BridgeMill and Kingston Square. Expect traffic in the 10 targeted subdivisions beginning April 3 as the roadwork moves through, the project is expected to finish up in the fall. Construction hours will be Monday - Friday, from 8 a.m. - 6 p.m. (Cherokee County Communications Division)
- A Woodstock man was found guilty and sentenced to 15 years for criminal attempt to commit a felony (child molestation) and computer pornography. The recent court press release described a May 2020 investigation where Marvin Civil, 38, engaged in inappropriate online conversations with a person he thought was 14, eventually requesting she meet him in person. The "girl" was actually an undercover deputy, and Civil was located and taken into custody while waiting for the "girl" at a store along Highway 92. Civil's argument that he was trying to help the police catch child predators didn't sway the court, he will be serving five years in prison with the next 10 on probation with sex offender restrictions in place. (Woodstock-Towne Lake Patch)
- There's a Wing and Rock Fest happening this weekend at Etowah River Park. Saturday from noon - 7 p.m. and Sunday from noon - 6 p.m., head over to the park for chicken wings, live music, a vendor market, a wing eating contest and more. There will be over 20 food trucks with over 60 types/flavors of wings, and there is no admission fee. There may be as many as 20,000 people at this year's event, so head over and join the fun! The park is at 600 Brown Industrial Parkway in Canton. (Canton GA Events)
