Hi all. It's me, Nina, your host of the Woodstock-Towne Lake Daily — here with everything you need to know about what's happening around town.
First, today's weather:

Here are the top five stories in Woodstock-Towne Lake today:
- Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services was called out for a residential fire on Jennys Row in Southwest Cherokee County on Sunday morning. The Cherokee County crew was assisted by Woodstock Fire & Rescue to extinguish the fire. All residents of the one-story home escaped unharmed and two family pets were rescued. (Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services)
- Woodstock resident and Kennesaw State University junior Ariane Charland-Martin was awarded the top prize in the university's annual Birla Carbon Scholars Symposium. Charland-Martin, who is an honors student working towards a master's in chemical sciences, discovered a way to make polymer materials degradable while still retaining the properties necessary for electronic applications like solar cells. (Kennesaw State University)
- The Cherokee County School District conducted a question and answer session with Creekland Middle School teacher Shelley Anderson for itsr weekly "Meet The Teacher" posting. Anderson, who teaches seventh-grade life science, has created many ways to help further children's education and critical thinking skills. One of the methods Anderson spoke of is turning the classroom into a mock emergency room and asking students to research genetic disorders and physical conditions to help their "patients" during anatomy and genetics units. Asked how parents can help their children's educational journey, Anderson replied that "parents can assist their children in science and life by encouraging inquisitiveness, critical thinking and wonder surrounding our Earth and natural phenomena that occur all around us." - Taste of Woodstock is returning this year on September 15 on The Green downtown. You can purchase tickets at the event for 50 cents each, and there are also several package options to choose from. Ticket booths will be located at the entrances along Market Street. Once inside the event, you can exchange your tickets for food. Food items are generally priced around 2 to 8 tickets, and beverages will be sold at refreshment stands around The Green. There will be no money exchanged for food items, but items from the refreshment stands can be purchased with cash or card. After tasting all the amazing food, you can vote on your favorites.
