- A local high school student has received a scholarship offer to play basketball for the University of Dayton Flyers. Brandon Rechnsteiner is currently a senior at Etowah High School, where he plays the position of point guard. He has also received offers from Georgia Tech, Northwestern University, and Wichita State. (Dayton Daily News)
- Two people were killed and three more were injured during a car crash in Cherokee County on Sunday afternoon. Police say deputies responded to the scene on Yellow Creek Road around 4:30 p.m., where 71-year-old Eric Nuzie and 66-year-old Karen Nuzie were discovered to have been killed in the crash. An 11-year-old boy and two other adults were transported to local hospitals with serious injuries. (FOX 5 Atlanta)
- The Cherokee County Board of Commissioners will consider a request today to permit a for-rent community with 51 homes. The applicant behind the requested permit, Elmington Residential, LLC, intends to build a for-rent community with 25 townhomes and 26 single-family homes. Commissioners will also consider rezoning requests from Blake's House of Independence and Sweetwater Property Investments, LLC during today's meeting. (Tribune Ledger News)
- Catrina Wilson has been named the Cherokee County School District Preschool Centers Teacher of the Year for 2022. Wilson has four years of experience as an educator and began her education career as a paraprofessional. She is known by parents and colleagues for being patient, innovative, and a "technology guru."
