A Marietta man is behind bars after he allegedly hit an officer with a vehicle while fleeing a traffic stop.
Around 10:45 a.m. Friday, Feb. 6, an officer with the Woodstock Police Department initiated a traffic stop on Trickum Road as a result of a be-on-the-lookout alert issued by the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office on a stolen vehicle.

Brittany Duncan, Woodstock police spokesperson, said as officers approached the vehicle, the driver — Christopher Becker, 32, of Marietta — drove off and allegedly hit an officer in the process. The officers entered a vehicle pursuit with Becker, and the chase subsequently ended at Delk Road in Marietta when Becker crashed his vehicle.
That didn’t stop him, however. Duncan said Becker exited the vehicle and “took off on foot.”

“He was pursued (for) a short time before being apprehended,” she said.
He remains at the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center and bond has been set at $57,155, said Cherokee Sheriff’s Office Lt. Jay Baker.
Becker is charged with aggravated assault, theft by receiving stolen property and fleeing and attempting to elude police. Duncan said the officer was treated at an area hospital for “non life-threatening injuries.”
