Rain Dampens Woodstock Amphitheater Construction Timeline

The project at the Park at City Center is running about 60 days behind schedule, city leaders said.

Woodstock, GA -- The last few months have brought a steady flow of precipitation to Cherokee County, and that regular rainfall has slowed down Woodstock’s progress on its new amphitheater.

Construction crews are running about 60 days behind schedule due to the ”rain days,” City Manager Jeff Moon said.

Elected officials at the Jan. 25 City Council meeting discussed with staff the possibility of only having one concert on Veteran’s Day weekend. However, City Council members asked staff members to review other options, and Moon said those items will be brought back for discussion in one to two months.

Other than the delay, Parks and Recreation Director Preston Pooser said the process is “going very well.”

The new amphitheater at the Park at City Center will feature tiered grass seating for 5,000 to 6,000 people, restrooms, retaining walls and a band shell with a green room. It will be used for outdoor concerts, theater productions and other activities.

Astra Group, Inc. was selected as the contractor for the project. The City Council in August awarded a bid to the company to perform the project for $3.2 million.
