Associate Professor of Art, Jym Davis, was an artist in residence at the Petrified Forest National Park in Arizona this past summer. Through that, he created his hand-painted paper-mache masks inspired by the animals that live in the national parks he visited on his trip. He is bringing those creations home to Waleska for display.
False Face: An Art Show about Masked Identities will be held Oct. 27-Nov. 17 at the Fincher Arts Center.

“The show features seven artists working in a variety of mediums exploring the concept of disguised identity or ‘false faces,’” Davis said.
The idea for the show came about as a result of Davis’ residency in Arizona, and features a digital artist, Talaina Fisher, he met as a part of the program.
Reinhardt alumni Em Harris and Tyler Gill will participate in the show with Harris’ work with ceramics and Gill’s work in photography.
Brett Mullinix, art department chair, will present his recent collage works that explore notions of spatial perception and memory that often use historical imagery and humor to challenge notions of content.
William Haun — longtime friend of Davis’ and missionary to Ghana — will show his photography.
“Haun documented some old traditional African dances that involved masks. He’s an amazing photographer and produces National Geographic-quality work,” Davis said.
Katie Rita, a painter from Olympia, Washington, with whom Davis connected through social media, also contributes to the show.
