Safe Kids Cherokee Hosts Appreciation Lunch

Cherokee County Fire Marshal and Lead Advisor for Safe Kids Cherokee, welcomed everyone to the event and, after a prayer, a delicious lunch.

From Cherokee Co. Fire: Safe Kids Cherokee held their annual Appreciation Luncheon today at the Cherokee County Administrative Offices at The Bluffs in Canton.

Chad Arp, Cherokee County Fire Marshal and Lead Advisor for Safe Kids Cherokee, welcomed everyone to the event and, after a prayer, a delicious lunch was served. After lunch, Arp invited the attendees to watch a video featuring Michele Ice, a local firefighter and volunteer for Safe Kids Cherokee. The video told the audience about a terrible day that happened on April 1 st , 1999, when Michele was involved in an automobile accident that also involved her 10 month baby girl, Brooke. Michele tells about taking her car seat to a certified care seat inspector ten days prior to the accident to be checked. Michele went on to say that she attributes the proper installation of her child’s car seat for keeping her daughter safe and protected during the accident. After the video, Chad introduced Brooke Ice, who is now a Cherokee County firefighter, as the event’s featured speaker. Brooke spoke about the day of the accident. She also spoke about how much she enjoys working in public safety and serving the citizens of Cherokee County. Brooke continues to volunteer with Safe Kids Cherokee County and is now a certified car seat inspector, too.

After Brooke’s speech, Arp came forward to give an overview of the activities and events that Safe Kids Cherokee County assisted with during 2017. Cherokee County Commission Chairman, “Buzz Ahrens,” congratulated Safe Kids Cherokee on all of their accomplishments and thanked them for what they do to
