- High school seniors from around the state will gather in Woodstock later this month for the Distinguished Young Women of Georgia State Finals program. The statewide scholarship program offers participants the opportunity to earn college-granted scholarships from universities around the country. The showcase is open to the public and will be held on Jul. 23 at 6:00 p.m. in the Celebration Hall of Hillside United Methodist Church. (Cherokee Tribune Ledger News)
- The Sequoyah Regional Library System hosted an event in downtown Woodstock on Wednesday featuring an afternoon of reading, dancing, and singing. The event included live readings of the books "Poor Little Guy" and "There Was An Old Pirate Who Swallowed A Map." According to Jenny Brooks, the youth service specialist at the Woodstock Public Library, more than 100 people attended the successful program. (Cherokee Tribune Ledger News)
- The victim injured in the road rage shooting in Cherokee County earlier this week has been identified as 25-year-old Jason Daxon. Daxon was recently signed to a major record label in Atlanta, but doctors say it will take the Grammy-nominated songwriter months to recover. His fiance, Angeline Peterson, says she believes the road rage incident was also racially motivated. (WSB-TV 2 Atlanta)
- Cherokee County is now accepting applications for the Emergency Rental Assistance Program. The program provides Cherokee residents who have been impacted by COVID-19 with rental and utility assistance. Qualifying renters are encouraged to apply online today. (Cherokee County, GA via Facebook)
- A community blood drive will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. tomorrow, Jul. 8, at the R.T. Jones Memorial Library in nearby Canton. The blood drive is open to all adults ages 18 and older. Donors can make an appointment in advance by contacting the American Red Cross at RedCrossBlood.org and entering code "RTJones" or calling 1-800-Red-Cross. (Atlanta Journal-Constitution)
