Senate Adopts Resolution Declaring Wednesday Autism Awareness Day

Georgia State Senator Albers (R- Roswell) sponsored Senate Resolution 56, which declares Jan. 28, 2015, as Autism Awareness Day at the state capitol.

“Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) are complex developmental disorders that typically occur in the first three years of life,” said Sen. Albers. “It is important to me that we work together to increase awareness and support the individuals and families whose lives are affected by these disorders.”

Sen. Albers invited Ava Bullard, the inspiration behind Ava’s law, and her family to the Capitol today to be the face of the resolution. He also addressed the importance of early detection and providing insurance coverage for Autism treatment.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 3 million people live with an ASD in the United States and with the appropriate treatment, the majority of children with ASD will experience marked improvement.

Senate Bill 1, a bill which will require certain insurance coverage for Autism Spectrum Disorders, will be on the floor of the Georgia State Senate tomorrow.

Senate District 56 is located in north Fulton and Cherokee counties, covering all of Roswell, Mountain Park and parts of the cities of Sandy Springs, Johns Creek, Alpharetta, Milton and Woodstock.
