Six Cherokee County Seniors Receive $1K Scholarships
Six Cherokee County Class of 2020 graduates have earned $1,000 scholarships.
CHEROKEE COUNTY, GA – from a local company that provides custodial services for the school district.
This year's winners are Lauren Haymore of Cherokee High School, Margaret Klements of Creekview High School, Jenna Dorran of Etowah High School, Daniel Acosta of River Ridge High School, Jack Belisle of Sequoyah High School, and Ella Elbeck of Woodstock High School.
ABM Industry Groups LLC awards a scholarship to one graduating senior from each of CCSD's high schools each year.

“Congratulations to each of these outstanding graduates and best wishes as you continue your education and begin your careers,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brian V. Hightower in a prepared statement. “We appreciate ABM’s support and its focus on honoring students who choose to lead and serve in their schools and communities.”
Haymore, who is headed to Utah Valley University in pursuit of a medical career with a service organization such as Doctors Without Borders, played soccer and ran cross country at Cherokee HS for four years.

Klements, a four-year Creekview HS swim team member who served as captain her senior year, was inducted into the National Honor Society. She will attend Kennesaw State University to study accounting.
Dorran, who will study biology at the University of Colorado on her path to become a physician, has been active in Etowah HS student government, including serving as senior class and student body president.
Acosta, an aspiring filmmaker who will begin his studies at Chattahoochee Technical College, participated in River Ridge High School’s journalism program as an editor and junior crew leader.
Belisle, who is headed to Georgia State University to study computer science, completed the Career Pathway program for Computer/Digital Technology and helped charter the Sequoyah HS eSports team.
Elbeck, president of two academic honor societies and a talented musician in both Woodstock High School’s marching band and orchestra symphony, will study biological sciences at Cornell University.
