Streetscapes Enhancement Project Starts July 9 In Woodstock

The South Main Street Transportation Enhancement project adds parking spaces, sidewalks and other features between Oak and Fowler streets.

WOODSTOCK, GA — The city of Woodstock will soon begin its South Main Street Transportation Enhancement project, a federally-funded initiative designed to extend the improvements from Oak Street to Fowler Street in the central business district.

As an extension of the streetscape project completed in 2010, Main Street from Oak Street to Fowler Street will soon have the same look and feel as the rest of downtown. The project includes 12 parking spaces, 8-foot wide sidewalk on the west side of Main Street, 6-foot wide sidewalk on the east side (along the railroad right-of-way), decorative brick pavers and planters, street furniture including trash cans and benches, decorative street lights, street trees on the east side, and landscaping, joined by curb and gutter, resurfacing, and new striping.

Brantley Day, the city's community development director, said the project is the second phase of the Main Street Streetscapes Project, which overhauled the look between Towne Lake Parkway and Fowler Street. The project took shape in the early 2000s with the Downtown Master Plan and Livable Centers Initiative Plan, completed in partnership with the Atlanta Regional Commission, he added.
