Woodstock Shooting Suspect Found Dead After SWAT Standoff

WOODSTOCK, GA — The suspect wanted in connection to a shooting reported Wednesday afternoon in the Rose Creek community of Towne Lake was found dead outside a home in Cobb County. Marshall Phillip McCall, 47, was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound during a SWAT standoff with Cobb County police.

Officer were dispatched around 5 a.m. to a call of wanted person in the area of Debbie Drive SW in Mableton. They arrived at the scene to learn the male suspect left the area and was at a residence at 983 Millwood Drive SW, which is a few miles away.

Officers made their way to the home, and a SWAT callout was activated, said Cobb POlice spokesperson Sarah O'Hara. The team of officers arrived at the scene, and prepared to enter the house to remove any bystanders.

However, before they could go inside, one gunshot was heard from the back patio of the residence. SWAT officers entered the house and safely removed the residents. The suspect, identified as McCall, was found dead on the back porch from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, O'Hara said. No other shots were fired in the incident.

O'Hara told Patch that the Millwood Drive residence belongs to McCall's mother and his stepfather. The home in the area of Debbie Drive is also a "family residence," but O'Hara couldn't confirm which family member it belonged to.

The Cherokee Sheriff's Office said in a post made Thursday morning on its Facebook page that McCall is "no longer a threat to the community."

"Thank you for your cooperation and for sharing the information," the agency added.

McCall was wanted for a domestic altercation reported Wednesday, June 20 that resulted in the victim being shot. That individual was transported to an area hospital for treatment. CSO noted the victim remains in critical condition.

The suspect, identified as McCall, fled the scene in the victim's black 2012 Kia Optima, and detectives charged him with aggravated assault and robbery in connection to the June 20 shooting. The Kia Optima was recovered at the scene of the SWAT standoff, Denson added.
