Here are the top three stories in Woodstock-Towne Lake today:
- The Cherokee Sheriff's Office is looking for information regarding a robbery that took place in Woodstock. The robbery took place at the Food Depot on Bells Ferry Road on November 22, and the sheriff is looking for two people caught on surveillance in relation to the crime. You can see the pictures here. If you have any information, please contact Investigator C. Nelms at 678-493-4324 or 770-928-0239. The case number is SO22-016411. (Cherokee Sheriff's Office via Facebook)
- The history of our wonderful city was in the spotlight over at WSB-TV in honor of our 125th birthday yesterday. The news outlet covered not just the Christmas Jubilee and Parade of Lights, but also pointed out a few dates that helped Woodstock evolve into the city we now know. We celebrated the birthday of our hometown last weekend, down on Main Street with everyone else, shoulder to shoulder with family, friends and neighbors. As I read the article, the image of last weekend's crowds in my mind superimposed over the emptier Main Street of yesteryear. Some of the same buildings still stand, the same train tracks still travel through, but back when Main Street was paved in 1912, the city held a mere 4,500 citizens inside its borders. Now 36,000 strong, we are all "Woodstockers," as the Mayor said, and this community is just as beautiful now as it ever was. (WSB-TV)
- Cherokee County will have expanded internet access soon, thanks to the Chamber of Commerce and the software company Kinetic by Windstream. The expansion will bring high-speed connectivity to over 26,000 homes and businesses that sit within the more rural areas of northern Cherokee County. After the pandemic shed some light on the issue, while students were attending school online, Governor Kemp earmarked $408 million in federal relief funds to spend on bringing high-speed internet to those areas. The project is expected to be completed in mid-2023. (Subscription: The Atlanta Journal-Constitution)
