Synovus Bank Commits to Build 8th Home in Partnership with Habitat for Humanity-North Central Georgia

CHEROKEE COUNTY, GA (April 18, 2019) – Habitat for Humanity-North Central Georgia receives a $10,000 grant from Synovus Bank to build a home for a local family in Cherokee County. Not only has Synovus Bank committed to funding a portion of the build, but Synovus employees will work side by side with the family to build their home. This will be their 8th home in 10 years of partnering with Habitat for Humanity-North Central Georgia.
As the “Bank of Here”, all of us at Synovus are honored to support Habit for Humanity as it helps provide homes to our neighbors here in North Metro Atlanta,” said Christopher Mixon, Market President with Synovus Bank’s Northeast Atlanta Market. “As a Georgia-headquartered bank, we are also enormously proud of the impact Habitat for Humanity has made around the world for more than 40 years from our home state.
“Synovus has been a true partner of Habitat-North Central Georgia since at least 2006, providing home sponsorships and our primary banking services,” said CEO of Habitat-NCG, Russell Hayes. “In addition, Synovus serves as our liaison with the Federal Home Loan Bank of Atlanta for securing down payment assistance grants, ranging from $5,000 to $7,500, for each of our homeowners at their closings. The efforts of the Synovus associates in taking on this additional work at no cost to our affiliate are deeply appreciated as the grants provide in excess of $50,000 in revenue for our ministry annually. We are extremely grateful for Synovus’s support.”

Habitat for Humanity-North Central Georgia is a non-profit, Christian housing ministry that builds affordable housing for purchase by low- to moderate-income families who demonstrate a capacity for responsible homeownership. Since its inception in 1995, Habitat-NCG has built or rehabbed over 300 homes in North Fulton, Cherokee and Forsyth/Dawson counties. Partner families are required to attend educational classes related to homeownership and perform 200 sweat equity hours; they earn between 30% and 60% of the Atlanta area median income and purchase their homes through a 30-year, no-interest loan financed by Habitat-NCG. In 2014, Habitat-NCG started a home repair program targeted primarily at veterans and seniors. To date, 63 repair projects have been completed, bringing the total number of persons served by the ministry to over 1300, including more than 750 children.
