Tessa Basford, Woodstock City Council Member, Passes Away

Basford was sworn into office in September 2010, filling the unexpired term of former Ward 6 Council member Steve Faris

The city of Woodstock is mourning the passing of one of its leaders.

Ward 6 Council member Mary ”Tessa” Basford passed away early Monday morning, the city said.

Basford started her term on the council on Sept. 13, 2010, filling the unexpired term of former Council member Steve Faris. She was elected to her first full term in November 2011.

“She cared greatly for this city and its employees,” the city wrote on its website. ”Her love, compassion and commitment was evident in everything she did and said. She was a great inspiration and shining light for us all.”

Basford is survived by her husband, Wayne, daughter Katie and her mother and father.

Basford graduated from Florida State University and spent her professional career protecting and advocating for the civil and human rights of people with disabilities.
