Towne Lake Neighborhoods See Spike In Entering Auto Incidents
The Cherokee Sheriff's Office is using the opportunity to remind residents to secure their valuables and lock their vehicles.

TOWNE LAKE, GA -- The Towne Lake community was the site of a recent entering auto spike, and the Cherokee Sheriff's Office is using the uptick in crime to inform residents how to secure their property.
The Cherokee Sheriff's Office informed residents of the incidents Tuesday afternoon on its Facebook page.
The latest rash of incidents occurred with the last few weeks in subdivisions such as The Arbors, Towne Lake Hills and Eagle Glen, said sheriff's office spokesperson Lt. Jay Baker.

Entering auto incidents, he added, is one of the most common thefts the agency responds to.
"In almost every case, especially in neighborhoods, the thefts are from unlocked vehicles," he added.

Of course, detectives are following up on leads in some of the thefts, and the agency is reminding citizens what they can do to drastically reduce their chances of becoming a victim of these crimes.
Residents should always lock their car doors and lower their garage doors when possible. They should also take the time to remove valuables from their vehicles.
"These types of thefts almost exclusively happen overnight," the agency said. "If you hear or see anything unusual in the early morning hours within your subdivision, please do not hesitate to call 911 and report it."
