Traffic Alert: Woodstock To Close Streets For July 4th Events

The city will celebrate the Fourth of July with the annual Freedom Run, Freedom Fest and fireworks.

The city of Woodstock is set to host its annual Independence Day Fun race, parade, festival and fireworks display on Saturday.

With that in mind, the Woodstock Police Department is informing residents about upcoming road closures and traffic control in preparation for the annual July 4th celebration.

  • From 7:15 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., Main Street/Rope Mill Road will be closed from Highway 92 to Woodstock Elementary School for the Freedom Run Race, which begins at 7:30 a.m. The road race will end in the area of Pure Taqueria during which time East Main Street at Hubbard Road, Wheeler Street and Fowler Street will all be closed.
  • Around 8:30 a.m., Main Street/Rope Mill Road from Highway 92 to Woodstock Elementary School will reopen briefly prior to the start of the parade.
  • At 9:45 a.m., Main Street/Rope Mill Road will close once again for the parade scheduled to start at 10 a.m. and is scheduled to reopen at approximately 11:30 a.m.

Other road closures scheduled during the downtown events include: Rope Mill Road at Woodstock Elementary, Rope Mill Road at Rusk Street, Rope Mill Road at Kyle Street, Main Street south of Dobbs Road, Main Street at Rope Mill Road, Main Street at Towne Lake Parkway, Main Street at Mill Street, Main Street at Elm Street, Main Street at Oak Street, Main Street at Fowler Street/East Main Street, Arnold Mill Road at Hubbard Drive, Arnold Mill Road at Main Street/East Main Street, Towne Lake Parkway at Wall Street, Towne Lake Parkway at Mill Street, Towne Lake Parkway at Woodstock Parkway, Mill Street at Pine Hill Drive, Mill Street at Market Street, Market Street at Elm Street, Market Street at Oak Street, Market Street at Maple Street, Market Street at Fowler Street and Market Street north of Hickory Street.

A festival in the Park at City Center is scheduled to take place immediately following the parade, and will last until 3 p.m.

At sunset, the city will offer its annual fireworks display in the area of Woodstock Square Avenue. Woodstock police anticipate a high volume of vehicular traffic on the roadways associated with this event.

At the conclusion of the display, the police department will direct motorists to comply with the following:

  • All traffic parked south of Highway 92 (including Super Target, BJ’s Wholesale Club, Lowe’s, Molly Lane and Woodstock Square Avenue) will be directed to turn right onto Highway 92 and travel east.
  • All traffic parked north of Highway 92 (including The Home Depot, Big Lots, Hennessy Honda and IHOP) will be directed to turn right onto Highway 92 and travel west.
  • No left turns or U-turns will be permitted on Highway 92 during or after the scheduled event until the streets and parking lots are clear.

Sign boards will be present at exits to assist motorists with direction of travel.

Woodstock police encourages motorists to drive with caution around pedestrians, comply with uniformed police officers directing traffic, and allow for extra travel time to and from the events.
