Waffle House in Downtown Woodstock?

The Woodstock Planning Commission is set to consider the proposal to build the restaurant in place of Hot Dog Heaven.

WOODSTOCK, GA -- The Woodstock Planning Commission will consider variances to accommodate plans to construct a Waffle House restaurant in downtown.

The commission will hear the request submitted by the company at its July 7 meeting, which will start at 7 p.m.

The .05-acre property, owned by Paul and Carolyn Wentzel and currently home to Hot Dog Heaven, is located at 8558 Main Street -- at the northwest corner of Main Street and Towne Lake Parkway.

Waffle House is seeking variances from architectural, open space, parking and streetscape standards.

According to documents provided by city staff, the parcel is "barely" larger than the footprint of the current building.

The proposal accounts for demolishing Hot Dog Heaven, but also anticipates the city of Woodstock also demolishing the building to the south of the property, which shares a wall with Hot Dog Heaven. That demolition would be needed so Woodstock can move forward with plans to improve Towne Lake Parkway.

Thursday's meeting will be held at the Chambers at City Center, which is located at 8534 Main Street.
