Waffle House Withdraws Plans For Restaurant

Developers have pulled back on plans to open a new restaurant in downtown Woodstock in place of Hot Dog Heaven.

WOODSTOCK, GA -- If you were looking forward to having a place in downtown Woodstock to satisfy your cravings for all things scattered, smothered and covered, then you are out of luck -- for now.

That's because the applicant behind plans to bring Waffle House to the central business district withdrew the petition to open a new restaurant at the northwest corner of Towne Lake Parkway and Main Street.

The Woodstock City Council voted at its July 25 meeting to accept the withdrawal without prejudice. Waffle House sought to build its new location in place of Hot Dog Heaven at 8558 Main Street.

Robert Good of the Good Group, who represented Hot Dog Heaven owners Becky and Barney Wentzel, read a short statement to the Council and audience before the vote was taken.

Good said the Wentzels have owned the property for "many years," and want to work with the city to determine the best options for the property concerning Woodstock's plans to develop its city center.

“We want to evaluate the development issues related to the property," he said.

When reached by phone on Tuesday, the Wentzels declined to comment on the outcome.

A petition and Facebook page were created to stop the proposal from becoming a reality in Woodstock.
