Woodstock Approves Name For Amphitheater

The Northside Hospital-Cherokee Amphitheater will serve as the new home for the city's Summer Concert Series.

WOODSTOCK, GA -- The Woodstock City Council on Monday approved a contract with Northside Hospital-Cherokee for the naming rights of the city's new amphitheater.

Construction of the new concert and community events venue started in September 2015 and will be completed in mid-October. The new Northside Hospital-Cherokee Amphitheater will be home to the Woodstock Summer Concert Series and a variety of other year-round concerts and special events.

"This facility will be the centerpiece of downtown Woodstock, enabling the city to attract many new and larger concerts and special events year-round," said Woodstock Parks and Recreation Director Preston Pooser." The amphitheater will be a premier facility in Georgia, bringing tens of thousands of visitors into Woodstock each year.”

The venue features multiple terraces and a large lawn seating area for optimal viewing angles. It will also include a concessions and hospitality plaza and additional areas for food vendors. The bandstand will feature public restrooms and support facilities for concerts and events.

In 2017, the Woodstock Summer Concert Series will be entering its 20th year. The average attendance has been around 7,000 at each event, and Woodstock hopes to average 7,500 attendees for each concert at the new facility.

“We’re excited about this partnership with Northside-Cherokee and look forward to the opening of the amphitheater," City Manager Jeff Moon said.

The city will host an open house at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 25 for the public to see the facility. The official ribbon cutting and first concert at the Northside Hospital-Cherokee Amphitheater will be held on Nov. 12 when country music recording artist Mark Wills performs.
