Woodstock Celebrates Trail Extension, Senior Center Projects

The city will host groundbreaking and ribbon cutting ceremonies for the Rubes Creek Trail extension and the new senior center addition.

WOODSTOCK, GA — The city of Woodstock on Monday will celebrate the start and completion of two projects designed to improve and expand recreational opportunities for its citizens.

The city will host a groundbreaking ceremony for the Rubes Creek Trail extension and ribbon cutting ceremony for the William G. Long Senior Center expansion project. The ceremonies will begin at 5:15 p.m. Jan. 22, and will be held in front of the senior center at 223 Arnold Mill Road.

The Rubes Creek Trail extension project will connect downtown Woodstock to the Rubes Creek Trail head located across the street from William G. Long Senior Center. The extension will connect the senior center to the Northside Hospital-Cherokee Amphitheater, thus connecting the Rubes Creek Trail to the downtown area.

The Long Senior Center expansion project ribbon cutting ceremony will follow the trail expansion celebration. That project includes a 2,400-square-foot, multi-purpose room perfect for activities such as: arts and crafts, exercise classes, meetings, and more. The expansion project was partially funded through a $250,000 Community Development Block Grant.

"We’re very excited about unveiling these two projects," said Parks and Recreation Director Preston Pooser. "I believe these projects further our commitment to provide exceptional leisure opportunities to our community. We appreciate the continuous support of our mayor, the City Council and city manager as we look forward to providing more quality recreation opportunities to our residents."
