WOODSTOCK, GA -- The city of Woodstock is hard at work trying to supplement the loss of its annual Summer Concert Series for 2016.

City Manager Jeff Moon at the City Council's March 14 meeting revealed one option the city is seriously considering.

The event, which would be a partnership between Main Street Woodstock and Woodstock Parks and Recreation, would involve a local singer-songwriter music event. Tentatively scheduled to be held on Saturday, Aug. 13, the event would include multiple acts on multiple stages.

That event would be slightly different than a pilot bluegrass concert series Main Street Woodstock will begin hosting in May at the Elm Street Arts' Event Green adjacent to the Noonday Creek trail.

Moon said the August event could include one musical act at the gazebo at the Park at City Center and another at a smaller venue at an area homeowners association facility. He also said a restaurant could also get in on the event and possibly host musical act.

A headlining act would be introduced at 6:30 p.m.

If it goes well, Moon said the event could be "something we grow and incorporated into the concert series."

Delays in construction of the city's new amphitheater at the park have forced Woodstock to call off its 2016 Summer Concert Series.

Once complete, the new amphitheater will feature tiered grass seating for 5,000 to 6,000 people, restrooms, retaining walls and a band shell with a green room. It will be used for outdoor concerts, theater productions and other activities.

Moon added the city is still planning to host one large concert on Saturday, Nov. 12 once the new amphitheater opens.
