It was announced today that Woodstock High School earned honorable mention in the 2014 Get There Green High School competition hosted by The Clean Air Campaign. The competition is an action-oriented high school program designed to educate students about pollution reduction, help students create and implement sustainable transportation plans for their schools and introduce high schoolers to the broader context of community transportation planning. Students are judged based on the plans they develop to reduce impact of daily transportation behaviors on local air quality.
Woodstock students utilized morning announcements, social media, fliers and incentives to educate the student body about air quality. They wrote blogs for the OnAir site in all environmental science classes during action week. They also threw large outdoor “Greenstock” events featuring local environmental nonprofits and student performers to raise awareness.
“This was another competitive year for Get There Green. We had 20 schools from across Georgia participate and all of them put forth great effort,” said Gretchen Gigley, director of education at The Clean Air Campaign. “It’s inspiring to see our future leaders developing real-world solutions to improve local air quality and transportation problems in their communities.”
